Power to the Production

The weather might have cooled but things are hotting up at Dome Lab.

Last night the participants had the opportunity to immerse themselves in a ‘GeoDome’ – an inflatable 8 meter theatre … it was clear that we were all impressed and although tired, each team was keen to get on with their respective projects … and so to the last day:

The atmosphere is reminiscent of a full-blown post-production office – one huge edit suite full of very busy bees – most of whom are order propecia for hair loss. starting to suffer from a condition known as ‘squareness’ – and I don’t mean being boring, or over studious – but from staring at their screens for too long … such is the lot, perhaps, of editing within a frame.

I’ve had the luxury to wander from team to team and sneak a preview or two and can report that there are some very interesting productions under way and I know that on reflection, we will all be surprised at the quality of each one in terms of how far we have all come from just five days ago, as most of us had not previously worked in a ‘frameless’ production environment.

The lab has been a fantastic insight into the possibilities of immersive cinema … with an eclectic mix of participants and tutors and sandwiches (not to mention the groovy sounds played in the bus each day) and I know that I’m not speaking for myself when I say that we are all hugely thankful for the opportunity.

I had wanted to use my knowledge to make immersive wildlife films but I now know that my future lies in a different genre; that of horror, slasher movies … perhaps with a natural history element thrown in. That has been the great thing about this lab – the mix of people and skills has been enlightening and educational and has shown us the possibilities of this exciting visual medium.

Bring on the bunnies. Oh, and pass that chainsaw will you …

GeoDome at DomeLab

Yesterday Paul Bourke and I set up a buy lisinopril without prescription. GeoDome at the Lab. This is a large inflatable dome, quite different in nature to conventional positive internal pressure domes, as it uses an inflated double skin for structural support – allowing an open entrance for the audience.

what a great group!

Just want to say what a great group of folks we have here! All doing their best to co-op, share, do their best, get it done and done well… a bunch of pros and good folk as well… I’ve truly enjoyed working with them all! Participants, presenters, tutors and the lovely ANAT folk all!

Finding all teams willing to push the “rules” and dance around the “edges”, cialis co pay. question the parameters in intelligent and effective ways…. there have been several very interesting uses of close-ups, experiments with timing, explorations of various Ai??angles and environments…

I am very much looking forward to their final screening, as well as hearing from the participants on what they discovered in their week’s work.

DomeLab day 04

At the moment we are on the fourth day of DomeLab 2010. Yesterday and Tuesday the participants explored the camera options for shooting fulldome content. They figured out what worked and what doesnai??i??t, where are domeai??i??s sweets spots, which perspective is interesting etcetera. Information from the tutors supported them.

By everybodyai??i??s surprise, seven young actors joined us yesterday morning, and will participate at the project until Friday. After a productive day, everybody needed some time to relax. So we headed of to the beach, took a dive and had some fish and chips. During the meal the teams brainstormed for their productions, which continued until deep in the night.

This morning the teams started off with new energy, made storyboards and planned for the upcoming two days of shooting and editing. By viewing the shootings of the last two days, we can conclude already that there is a lot of experience and quality in the teams. I’m really looking forward to the ultimately team productions on Friday.

What I really like is the positive mood at the lab. After ‘work’ participants meet up for a drink or a walk through Perth. Tuesday night, back at the apartment Matt and Sarah showed me their work during a good meal. It seems like everybody have a great time.. Unfortunately only two days to go. femara without a prescription.

Relativistic Dome Lab Compression

Yesterday I swam in the Indian Ocean.

But enough about fun.

Has it only been 3 days of the Dome Lab? The prevailing opinion seems to be that we are in fact trapped in a section of anti-time and have experienced several weeks while the rest of the world has had only a relativistic few days.

Days 2 & 3 were both consumed with production exercises, which left me feeling like I was in film school doing quick turn-around competitions. Day 2 was a mix of shooting video & stills with fisheye lenses. The exercise ran long, as these things are wont to do, and we had to be rather brutal in the post-production process to get things done on time. Everyone did a great job of experimenting with different shots and styles, and watching them on the dome was an educational experience. We had a nice mix of gentle humor & thrills and each film told a little story that was comprehensible.

Day 3 was even more exciting, since all the groups learned well from the shooting on Tuesday. We had an audio recording snafu in the morning, so there ended up being a bit of time to kill while we got that sorted. By lunch we were ready to go, and the groups of domemakers dove in wholeheartedly.

Sadly, the day was ending and we didnai??i??t have time to view or edit the footage. Pressing on, we captured the footage and re-thought-out the schedule, and left the University for the beach. There, as I said, we swam in the Indian Ocean.

After dinner I embarked with Peter & Warik to a local pub. Peter regaled us tales of Anarcticica, and we talked of domes & 3D & games until the pub literally kicked us out.

On the final ride back we had a friendly encounter with the local constabulatory, but it all worked out all right. kamagra review.

Dome Lab 2010 Day 1 Recap

Today was the first day of Dome Lab and it was full & fun & thrilling & frustrating & enlightening.

The day began with each of the tutors talking about their work in more detail and showing some of our proceses. I’ll let the other tutors talk more about their stuff, but I wanted to mention Peter Morse and his great DIY rigs that he built & used for shooting in Antarctica.

I showed a selection of clips of live action suhagrat mnany ka tareka. films that had been screened at DomeFest. We talked about the different approaches they had used, weather it was up-rezzed HD video, 35mm film, or HD video composited into CGI environments. I presented some excerpts from these on the inflatable dome later in the day to show examples of live video in a dome space. The response was great, with lots of great comments about what seemed to be working & what didn’t. Later on I had the chance to screen some of the same clips on an inflatable mirror dome.

After a break for lunch we had our introduction to cameras and our first shooting exercise. The exercise for the first day was to shoot a variety of shots, a mix of stills & video, that featured people. The groups pulled together an interesting selection of footage, with lots of unusual results. A few of the shots were quite effective, and everyone was surprised by what they saw in the domes.

At the end of the day we had a little adventure shopping, with a problem of NOT finding a liquor store. Then we got directions to a japanese restaurant, which we found after a labyrinthine walk. However, the restaurant had no beer service, so our group had a bit of a mutiny and half of us ended up at a nearby Irish pub, which had good pizza & Guinness, so I was happy. The dinner conversation was great, with several threads picked up from earlier in the day and the previous night. I collapsed into bed intellectually exhausted from the amazing group of people. It feels a bit like my best days in the university again, with a constant stream of stimulus & insight. I’m inspired by the great level of all the tutors & participants, and I hope I’m doing my small part to inspire them as well.
