I thought I’d share some thoughts on my first dome project. I directed a remixable ‘virtual tour’ pilot featuring four players from the Australian Chamber Orchestra. The original concept was to produce a fulldome immersive experience of the ensemble with augmented reality mobile information and real-time remix options at each real-world venue on the tour.
Here’s the project report as a PDF and some further bits on Flickr and Vimeo.
We used six different platforms in the pilot but I’m particularly interested in forzest. portable environments, dome or otherwise. Anyone interested in collaborations and getting other ensembles into the mix let me know.

> how would you fit a whole orchestra in there?
Good question. The subject of the next phase of the project! I think the key to a compelling experience might be a dynamic layout rather than trying to find one static composition that works. Lots of fun experimentation ahead…
> Did you use a normal HD camera to shoot the different people and ‘post-stitch’ it together for dome projection?
We used the iCinema Centre’s Spherecam

Looks good – how would you fit a whole orchestra in there? Did you use a normal HD camera to shoot the different people and ‘post-stitch’ it together for dome projection? …the ‘DIY-dome-cam’ stuff is something we didn’t touch on much – it was all very fish-eye-focused. I’ve made some panos using a ‘normal’ camera & lens, and after domelab i tweaked it for a dome projection system, and it might even work!? Check it out: http://www.vimeo.com/16786033
