Today was the first day of Dome Lab and it was full & fun & thrilling & frustrating & enlightening.
The day began with each of the tutors talking about their work in more detail and showing some of our proceses. I’ll let the other tutors talk more about their stuff, but I wanted to mention Peter Morse and his great DIY rigs that he built & used for shooting in Antarctica.
I showed a selection of clips of live action suhagrat mnany ka tareka. films that had been screened at DomeFest. We talked about the different approaches they had used, weather it was up-rezzed HD video, 35mm film, or HD video composited into CGI environments. I presented some excerpts from these on the inflatable dome later in the day to show examples of live video in a dome space. The response was great, with lots of great comments about what seemed to be working & what didn’t. Later on I had the chance to screen some of the same clips on an inflatable mirror dome.
After a break for lunch we had our introduction to cameras and our first shooting exercise. The exercise for the first day was to shoot a variety of shots, a mix of stills & video, that featured people. The groups pulled together an interesting selection of footage, with lots of unusual results. A few of the shots were quite effective, and everyone was surprised by what they saw in the domes.
At the end of the day we had a little adventure shopping, with a problem of NOT finding a liquor store. Then we got directions to a japanese restaurant, which we found after a labyrinthine walk. However, the restaurant had no beer service, so our group had a bit of a mutiny and half of us ended up at a nearby Irish pub, which had good pizza & Guinness, so I was happy. The dinner conversation was great, with several threads picked up from earlier in the day and the previous night. I collapsed into bed intellectually exhausted from the amazing group of people. It feels a bit like my best days in the university again, with a constant stream of stimulus & insight. I’m inspired by the great level of all the tutors & participants, and I hope I’m doing my small part to inspire them as well.

Great first day at domelab 2010, very interesting group of creatives. Looking forward to some stimulating conversation! Divided them into teams and gave them cameras and sent them out to grab a few images for Paul Bourke’s iDome and a horizontal blow up dome. The campus has some lovely old stone archways and figtrees Whig lent well to the images. Interesting array of team differences in approach. Very much looking forward to their future offerings thru the week.Ai??

Being here as a tutor for Dome Lab is an incredible honor.
Already I’ve felt humbled at the breadth of experience and talent among our participants. I’ve already had some wonderful conversations on film history and theory, and my roommate Mick has shown me the excellent documentary “Salt” that he produced.
This group has a tremendous amount of talent and vision – something that will benefit the fulldome community greatly.
So far today the talks from the other tutors have been fascinating and I’m learning a lot, even though I helped some of the presenters prepare the materials for these talks.
If the conversations over dinner last night are anything to go by, then I think eurax cream over the counter. that we should be seeing some fantastic imagery in the domes soon.
Hi folks,
very last minute admittedly (have only now been able to turn my attention to this, SCU Media Degree Course Review document having been finally been put to bed!), doing a bit of hunting about and here, a really interesting advair by mail. dance performance using dome projection and VVVV:
Other than that, very excited, see you all tomorrow!

in Perth. Trying to stay awake for a reasonable period. First order of business was learning to say “skinny flat white” so I can access my drug of choice. …;-) a little caffein and a walkaround with Vicki and Bradley to find some dinner should keep us awake for awhile. Looking forward to a good week with you all! can you order first.
I’m looking forward to meeting and working with everyone at DomeLab 2010. What an accomplished talented group! It will be a week of 31 directors, no waiting. We’ve just had an early Fall dusting of snow here in the northwestern United States and I’m packing for a sunny Spring in Perth. See you 14 hour time zones from here on Sunday.var Thought I’d drop a brief note for everyone.
I’m currently working at the WASP@iVEC UWA on a new fulldome movie about Dark Matter, with Paul Bourke (WASP), Alan Duffy and Carley Tillett . This’ll be a mixture of live action fulldome video and visualisations of computational astrophysical models – some pretty amazing stuff. Anyway, the point relevant to DomeLab is that we’re shooting some content with the LadyBug 360A? camera and sorting out audio production issues for live action- which are quite challenging for a Dome environment.
This is an aspect I would very much like to draw people’s attention to during the lab, as in my experience, audio is often the most overlooked part of film/video production. Good audio can make even bad video look good (or OK…at least!) – and needs to be given some serious consideration before and during production. This is particularly the case with live action, given that the LadyBug camera doesn’t record an audio stream. Audio must be recorded separately and synched in post – a bit like the old days of Nagras and 16mm. This is particularly an issue for lip synch, so people should be aware of this.
We’re also lucky to have access to a couple of 5.1 surround mix environments: this is a technically sophisticated process that raises all sorts of interesting possibilities for the development of the sonic environment in the dome e 20 tadalifil. – audio, music, foley and its relationship with visual cues. In preparation for the lab attendees might want to consider bringing some audio material (eg. aiff, wav files) on hard drives with them – particularly if they want music for a mix for their particular project. After all there’s often nothing worse than library music – and this will affect the whole mood of your production. Naturally, it is imperative that you have copyright permissions (or waivers) to audio files that you choose to use. Give it some thought.
Look forward to seeing you next week.
Looking better every day!
